- MoonCat Rescue is a generative art collection. All NFTs in the collection feature images of cats generated by the blockchain
- First On-Chain Generation: Each MoonCat’s appearance was derived from mining a hash, which determined its unique on-chain DNA. An open source ‘DNA parser,’ hashed in the original MoonCats Ethereum contract, displays the MoonCat.
- Pioneer of Fair Minting: MoonCats were originally distributed via free rescue (minting). The process used a fun interface to search for a MoonCat. Under the hood, this was demonstrating a proof-of-work mechanism.
- First Bonding Curve: A small number of Genesis MoonCats (<1%) were generated and priced with the first known Bonding Curve mechanism on the Ethereum network.
- First Users’ Choice Minting On Ethereum (Collaborative Curation): There were over 4 billion potential editions of MoonCats but only 25,400 were rescued. Rescuers (minters) chose which MoonCat they would rescue. Users’ choice is the first instance of minter/designer collaboration in generative NFT creation. Results are neither fully random nor preselected by the designer.
- First Naming System: Rescued MoonCats can be permanently named only once by their owner, and the name stays on-chain with the MoonCat forever.
Only five-year minted NFT project: MoonCats were minted from 2017 to 2020, then finished minting in 2021.
